Capoeria

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art involving acrobatics, evasion, and dance.  All moves flow from the ginga, a fighting stance disguising itself as a rhythmic dance step.  Beginning in the early 16th century, Portugal began importing West African slaves as a source of forced labor in their New World territories.  Many of these slaves were captured by the Kingdom of Kongo, Portugal's African vassal state. Forbidden to fight with one another, African slaves cloaked capoeira's fighting skills in dance like movement.
